The mountains are calling and I must go

John Muir the Scots born naturalist, writer, climber, inventor, conservationist and campaigner would have been 179 years old on Friday 21st April 2017.

“The mountains are calling and I must go.”
― John Muir

John Muir was instrumental in establishing the world’s first National Parks system in America in the early 1900’s.  A global family of 6,555 protected National Park areas now covers 12% of the Earth’s surface. Enjoy Muir’s legacy in the UK by visiting a National Park near you or investigating what a City National Park could be.

“Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wildness is a necessity”
― John Muir, Our National Parks
