The Adventure Travel Film Festival August 14th – 16th 2015

The Adventure Travel Film Festival August 14th – 16th 2015 is celebrating its 5th birthday this year at a new London venue – leafy Mill Hill School, NW7!
5 years ago, adventurer duo Lois Pryce and Austin Vince created the first Adventure Travel Film Festival, a weekend of brilliant films and adventure travel inspiration. Over the years thousands of film lovers and adventure buffs from around the world have been drawn to its unique atmosphere of camaraderie, exclusivity and secret charm. Many have gone away inspired to take their own adventures – and create their own films. Celebrity kindred spirits like Ben Fogle have been known to drop in.
For its fifth birthday, the ATFF invites us to rediscover the lost art of hitchhiking. Legendary French traveller and author Andre Brugiroux who between 1955 and 2005 visited every country in the world is this year’s headline speaker. Other speakers include Sahara expert Chris Scott, Wild Frontiers founder Jonny Bealby, Anna McNuff who cycled solo across the US on a pink bicycle called Boudicca, and Steve Burbidge from ITV’s Best British Bakery.
And the films? This year they include:
Hitchtanbul – Dimitri and Karsten are heroes of this festival, taking travel DIY goonery to a new level. There’s no sweeter adventure than being thrown into the cab of a total stranger’s car and having to ‘get on’.
Going the Distance – one part adventure motorcycle journey, one part documentary about what it takes to hold a relationship together. From two British newlyweds who travel from Alaska to Argentina, interviewing married couples along the way about what it takes to make marriage work.
Into the Sea – an inspirational documentary of a female Irish surf champion and her journey teaching local girls to ‘hang ten’ in the wildest and most conservative part of Iran.
This year also sees a new venue – the rolling grounds and grand buildings of Mill Hill School, NW7.
This year’s programme also includes:
‘Ask The Experts’ panels on Hitch Hiking, Human-Powered and Vehicle Expeditions
Workshops on Crowdfunding, Travel Photography and Yoga for Travellers.
New entertainment from London’s top bluegrass band, Foghorn Leghorn and Austin’s Epic Adventure Travel Quiz
This year will see the return of the immensely popular Travel Filmmaking workshops, the Travel Writing & Publishing workshops taught by editor of Wanderlust Magazine, Phoebe Smith, as well as sessions on bush craft, foraging, rope skills and campfire cooking competitions.
