Sheffield Walking Festival 10th – 18th September 2016

Sheffield-City-Hall
Sheffield is set to host a brand new walking festival!
Sheffield Walking Festival will run from September 10 to 18 and will involve a programme of 28 enjoyable walks for all abilities over 9 days, from short strolls to longer, more challenging routes such as the 15-mile Sheffield Round Walk.
Sheffield has a strong walking community with more walking clubs than anywhere else in the UK. The festival, organised by Sheffield Walking Forum and supported by The Outdoor City, will bring together many of these clubs along with various outdoor communities and national organisations such as The Wildlife Trust, Peak National Park Authority, RSPB, Ramblers Association and Walkers are Welcome
Incorporating a variety of themes and landscapes, the festival celebrates all sides of the city- from industrial heritage and hidden outdoor art, to a family themed walk including a visit to a city farm, while several moorland walks will showcase the dramatic city borders that overlap with the Peak District…

The festival will culminate in a headline walk on Sunday 18 September which will retrace the historic footsteps of the Abbey Brook Mass Trespass, when back in 1932 a group of 200 ramblers gathered to walk over the moors in the North West of Sheffield. Much like its more famous relation the Kinder Mass Trespass, Abbey Brook was a landmark demonstration which played a major part in enabling access to areas of the country where people can walk freely today… Full Festival ProgrammeSheffield Walking Festival

Cliffhanger Sheffield’s Inner-City Festival of the Outdoors 9th – 10th July

Sheffield-City-Hall
Cliffhanger, formerly held at Millhouses Park, Sheffield and now in its 10th year is one of the most anticipated events on the UK outdoors calendar. Sheffield city centre will be transformed into a playground for outdoor adventure when the Cliffhanger Festival returns 9th – Sunday 10 July, with a new city centre location and free entry for everyone.
Events and activities will be spread across various locations such as the Peace Gardens, Barkers Pool and Devonshire Green, with dedicated areas for cycling, running and climbing. Devonshire Green will play host to the highlight of the weekend, the British Mountaineering Council’s British Bouldering Championships where the nation’s strongest climbers will battle it out, scaling a gigantic wall the size of three double decker buses, to reach the top spot.
