The grand-prize winner is Jeremy Flint, with his image of a leg-rowing fisherman on Inle Lake in Myanmar. Jeremy said, “Seen through a cone-shaped fishing net, I wanted to capture a unique view of the fisherman at work. The image shows the incredible paddling skill and amazing sense of balance the fishermen develop at a very young age. The conical nets are submerged in the water and the fish that are caught are speared through the hole at the top.”
Judge and Swhype Media co-founder, Andy Greenhouse, said of the grand-prize winner’s image, “Jeremy’s picture has symmetry and focus, and resonates with the viewer because the depth of field and sense of peripheral vision is strikingly similar to the human eye. He ‘tells the story’ of a Burmese fisherman in an almost choreographed moment — pairing the beauty of nature with our direct connection to it.”
The winners are:
Grand-prize winner: Jeremy Flint, a leg-rowing fisherman on Inle Lake, Myanmar
Photography: David Godfrey, puffin in flight over Wales’ Skomer Island
Portfolio: Alan O’Riordan, the people of Cuba
Mobile: Megan Lee, zebras in an English nature reserve
Video: Martin Kelly, Iceland

The television series based on the website Walks Around Britain has been commissioned for a second series even before the first series has finished airing.
Yorkshire based Nova Productions – who own and run the Walks Around Britain website – are now working on series two, which will feature 14 walks from across Britain and the Channel Islands. The series will be broadcast nationally on the Community Channel – on Freeview, Sky, Freesat and Virgin Media, with an intended transmission date in May – National Walking Month.
The first series began in January, and is shown 5 times throughout the week, with the premiere of each edition at Friday 9pm. After the first broadcast of the series on the Community Channel, it will then be syndicated to ten of the local television channels in the UK – and will be shown internationally too, with the first non-UK broadcast being in New Zealand in May.
The second series will – like the first – be part-funded by product placement – whereby kit manufacturers, accommodation providers and other companies associated with walking pay the producers to put their products in the series.
Speaking about the new series, Walks Around Britain’s Senior Producer and Editor, Andrew White said:
“We’re thrilled to be able to continue sharing great short walks from across Britain, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands with this second series. We’ve always concentrated on short walks between 2 – 8 miles – that’s Walks Around Britain’s signature – ideal for families, dogs and silver walkers.”
“Our aim is to show that there are great short walks all across the country, and the feedback from the first series has been fantastic. We’ve already been getting tweets and messages on our Facebook page with photos of people getting out doing our walks.”
The Community Channel is available on Freeview 63, Sky 539, Freesat 651 and Virgin Media 233.
