Storm Trooper Trousers

Posted 1st March 2010 in Rohan Forum

I got my new Superstriders about a week before Christmas 2009 – just in time for the snow (little did I know). This is my 3rd pair of Superstriders, the others being the old ones – 1 pair fire and polyurethane foam damaged (my fault, not a pretty story) and 1 pair worn to death (I wore them a lot and for just about every outdoor activity from early autumn to spring for several years).
New trousers are more expensive than the old ones, but feel bomb proof and still as comfortable as the old ones so far – they feel ‘a step up’ from the old ones. Gone is the tendency for lacerated skin (caused by the standard issue zip on each and every pocket) each time I reach into my pockets – I had heard negative thoughts about the pockets without zips but they are fine: the zips are still there on other, more secure pockets and no breezes in unwanted places so far as I can tell. I cannot remember when the old ones stopped being shower proof, but the new ones are (at the moment).
The first outing was on the Sunday before Christmas. No snow due until after dark, but the moors above Hartington hosted a veritable blizzard by early afternoon: so bad we abandoned the car later that p.m. on the Buxton road. Warm dry legs throughout. Snow still everywhere, several very snowy walks later, kneeling in the snow a couple of times (can’t remember why) and I’m still impressed.
My children refer to them as ‘Storm Trooper Trousers’ – they certainly look purposeful and so far they are…

Rohan Icelanders vs Winter Bags?

Posted 21st January 2010 in Rohan Forum

Icelanders or Winter Bags. I think that if you are looking for a pair of trousers that will take the wear and tear of winter walking, I would recommend the Icelanders. They have a much tougher outer fabric (polyamide canvas – even harder wearing than cordura!) than the winter bags and as you have already said, a more roomy fit, also more ideal for walking. But saying this, we have made the winter bags for many many years and will probably continue doing so as they are a firm favourite for many Rohan regulars. Personally I would choose the Icelanders, easier to fit…they will fit even if i’ve had too much pudding! Hope this helps. Christeen (Manager at Rohan Keswick)

Rohan On Route Trousers

Posted 14th January 2010 in Rohan Forum

enroute

I’ve been wearing my pair of Rohan On Route Trousers more or less solidly since I bought them about 6 months ago (Yes I do wash them – but overnight so they are ready the next day). The button fell off and was sewn back on, but apart from that they are showing no sign at all of wear and tear. They don’t even look faded.

They’re more than smart enough for the office and then strong and technical enough for racing sailing dinghies at the weekend. They also spent time bouncing and crawling around a small boat at sea in moderate (though relatively dry) conditions.

I love:
*The velcro mobile phone pocket which keeps my phone safe and scratch free.
*The material – very tough and has never needed ironing.
*The versatility – comfortable and practical in the office, warm, dry and windproof in a dinghy or at sea.
*The zipped inner pocket on the right hand side is now my wallet.
*Really hard wearing.

I like less:
*Button needed re-sewing (maybe to do with me being on the rounder side)
*I wish the phone pocket was on the other side from the d-ring so my keys are never near the phone.

Now that it has got very cold (including inside the office) I’ve ordered a pair of Winter Bags to see me through colder days. But when it’s warmer I’ll be wearing the On Routes again, and when they do eventually give up, they will be replaced.

Rohan Celebrity Spotting

Posted 7th January 2010 in Rohan Forum

So there I was watching the most beautiful birds of paradise in New Guinea on BBC2’s The Natural World revisited, when to my amazement and joy David Attenbough appeared wearing Rohan Bags and a Rohan jacket. This got me thinking, how many other “celebrities” are wearing Rohan Clothing that we don’t spot.

Who have you seen wearing Rohan?

Which celebrity would you like to see wearing Rohan?

What is the best bargain you bought in the Rohan Sale?

Posted 6th January 2010 in Rohan Forum

“I took advantage of the sale to buy a new fleece for myself. To replace my trusty old fleece that has seen better days and had worn very thin at the elbows. I treated myself to a Men’s Kosi Jacket in moonlight blue, discounted by 30% tremendous value for money. Arrived just ahead of the snow. Wore it for the first time to clear the paths and it proved very effective. A worthy replacement for my old fleece and great value”

Rohan gear for gap year girl

Posted 10th December 2009 in Rohan Forum

My granddaughter is about to leave on a gap year, mainly to the Far East and Asia. I have been a fan of Rohan for many years and have convinced her that Rohan clothing would serve her needs well, but she says she doesn’t want to dress like her Gran. With a budget of £600 she is warming to the idea that Rohan may be suitable. What would be your best recommendations for a skeptical 19 year old  female for the trip?

Now then indeed

Thanks for the top responses gents (and lady).

Looking at heading out in march/april and heading to Laos, Vietnam: Phu Quoc, Ko Sukorn and going from whats been said, my backpack will contain:

- Convertible Ultimate Cargos
- ultra T
- polo plus
- seersucker shirt
- goa top
- a kway pack-a-mac in case of any ’showers’
- cool trunks!
- a pair of speedos (not really)

Just need to decide on footwear, as would like to do some treking…

Swap Goas for Expedition.

Posted 22nd November 2009 in Rohan Forum

I have a pair of Rohan Expedition Convertible Cargoes which I absolutely love. As it seems Rohan have stopped making them, I bought unseen from the website a pair of Convertible Goas thinking they would be similar. These I do not like, they are much thinner and do not look nearly as stylish. At the same time I bought a pair of ordinary (non-convertible) Goas which I also don’t like. Does anyone have any Expedition Cargoes and like or prefer Goas and be willing to swap? Size is medium, leg 33. Thanks. Steve
