MOUNTAINEER Hamish MacInnes is challenging the next generation to revisit his past triumphs the way he did them.

Hamish is throwing down the gauntlet to the North Face kids.

He is challenging the best of them to revisit his past triumphs the way he did them. No crampons, no carabiners, not a sweat-wicking fabric in sight. Go old-school or go home.

They will be filmed in a mountain-top reality show, struggling to cope with heavy ropes, clunky wooden ice axes and wet feet in clompy boots.

Hamish will be at the bottom of the slope to offer expert advice.

Beside him will be his old pal and Everest companion Sir Chris Bonnington and American climber Yvon Chouinard, founder of outdoorwear firm Patagonia, who is bankrolling the proposed show.

That could be a very watchable show…

The current show about following the Klondike goldrush trail is good stuff, though they’re not doing old-school style. Just as well, hard enough as it is!
