I’ve always loved Dorset – the soft countryside and stunning coastline provide the perfect location for photography, in all weather. Every year in late November it’s possible to get a photograph of the sun rising directly through the ‘door’ from the far end of the beach, which gives you the opportunity add a little extra to the beach shot at sunrise. I arrived there very early on Sunday morning, in complete darkness, and carefully walked down the very steep cliff to the beach, and waited for the sun to rise.

The anticipation of a sunrise, standing behind the tripod, is one of the best parts of my work as a photographer – and on this freezing morning I was so grateful for my Rohan clothing to keep me warm, as winter seems to have now arrived!

And then, over the horizon the light began to appear and the sun rose perfectly through the opening of the Durdle Door – making the 4am start well worth it!
