After all the Rohan Shop teams close their doors at the end of the busy Gift Your Gear months there is a lot of work still to do…
All the donated gear is boxed up and collected by some lovely DPD drivers and delivered by some equally cheerful DPD drivers to the Gift Your Gear depot in Manchester. The photo above is some of the boxes from Rohan Long Preston waiting for their DPD collection.
That’s when the Gift Your Gear – The BIG Sort gets underway.
All the donations are unpacked, checked and sorted into type and size etc. At some point in the process the beneficiary groups donations are selected. Care is taken to try and match the most suitable gear to the needs of each group. Obviously size is an issue at this point. Sizes M/L and XL are donated in much bigger quantities than XS/S and children’s sizes.
Most outdoor brands are represented. This photo from Rohan Inverness illustrates the generosity of the donations. This one was from one person. A lovely collection.
Gear checking. sorting and allocating is an important job. It’s the type of tasks that demands you know exactly what you are looking at and making a considered decision very quickly. I stress a considered decision. It is very important to match the gear to the group.
Over the week boxes are coming into the sorting depot and leaving. Towards the end of the week there is far more leaving than arriving. At least that’s the theory.
Then there is a really enjoyable few hours when some of the beneficiaries arrive to collect their gear.
We will keep you updated with what’s happening during The BIG Sort on this post so please keep checking back…
