A Walk in the Woods – National Tree Week

A Walk in the Woods

National Tree Week 29 November – 7 December 2014

First launched in 1975 National Tree Week has encouraged us to celebrate our beautiful surroundings and plant trees.

My guess is we don’t need much encouragement for a walk in the woods.

National Tree Week is now the UK’s largest annual celebration of trees and woods.  The Tree Council has lot of information on local events during the week.  All events can be found on the Near You map.

In the words of John Muir

Keep close to Nature’s heart… and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean

A week is a big ask but just being amongst trees makes a walk special. We are lucky in the UK we have some fantastic forests,  and woods. However Britain is one of the least forested countries in Europe, woods cover 12% of our countryside. According to the Woodland Trust, almost two-thirds of us live within 4km of a wood that covers at least 200,000 square metres.

No excuse reward yourself with a walk in the woods during National Tree Week.
