   Re: Trousers. Glad someone’s raised the (non adjustable) waistband issue. I’m right between waist sizes & have 5 pairs of redundant but otherwise excellent pairs of older-design trousers which now marginally don’t fit. Expandable or otherwise adjustable construction would have allowed me to wear them to destruction (generally a 15 year process unless tumbling off motorbikes). Currently in convertible cargos. Fit. Result! Marion B above was spot on. Convertibles win for backpacking in hot climates.

   In support of Richard a bit of stretch in the Bags waist band (and the rest of the construction) while maintaining the ‘slim fit’ leg would generate at least a couple of sales in my direction. VOTE of ‘Stretch Bags’ in the non-shiny cotton rich Tangiers fabric?

   Dear Richard. Thanks for the review of the Goas. Yes, the fabric really works well in hot and humid conditions, doesn’t it, despite appearances. If you don’t like the drawcord check out our new Essential Trousers. They work the same as Goas but now have an elasticated waist with a fine belt – and the fabric is not at all shiny… Thanks also for the suggestion for Bags. I don’t dare change them though – I’d have thousands of instant enemies! All best wishes, Tim Jasper

   Re-comments by Kris regarding goas fabric, I too think it feels pretty unpleasant to the touch. However I did wear a pair of goas on a trip to Syria and found the performance excellent – I expected them to be sweaty in the temperatures we experienced and to my surprise they were not at all. Indeed my cotton T-shirts became soaked (with perspiration) and unpleasant wereas underneath the goas I remained dry & surprisingly comfortable given the hot temperatures.

   Also worn them in cold strong breeze on a beach in Northumberland & the goas were absolutely windproof.

   Don’t like the waist tightener on the goas though, particularly the later ones – keeps sliding loose unless I tie a knot after tightening – not easy to then undo as cord is elasticated.

   Still prefer bags overall but to make bags absolutely perfect I reckon they should have at least part elasticated waisteband – be far more comfotable. If I buy them sized big enough to fit my waiste more comfortably, the rest of them (legs and hips and bum) are far too baggy on me!

   Hope that Bags continue to be made. Hate the feeling of a pair of Goas, the remain at my girlfriends to go to the Gym in as a last resort if its really cold (like today).

   Always felt that new Bags were for winter, worn in for autumn / spring, and when really worn in – the summer.

   Long may they reign…

   Dear Mr Kenneth Huxley-Robinson. Glad to hear you are a devoted fan of Bags. I think you’re being a little unfair on the humble polyamide though… Polyamide is the generic name for a manmade polymer which was promoted as NYlon back in the 1930′s. Needless to say things have moved on a lot since then. If you look at brand new garments in the Rohan range such as the Equator Shirt or Essential Trousers you will find that they have all the benefits of this polymer but in remarkably soft, even silky and very natural feeling fabrics. Which we are very proud of having developed ourselves. The benefits over the venerable Bags would be faster drying times, even better comfort and much better lifespan. Anyway, not seeking to change your mind – just thought I’d chip this in! Thanks for all your support. With best regards, Tim Jasper

   Really disappointed I am afraid in the Epic fabric. I have bought both the Epic bags and the jacket. Both let the rain through during a ten minute walk to the Station (it was raining moderately hard but not torrential). Both are OK to wear during the winter, but too hot in the Summer. I find that ordinary untreated ecotton jackets and trousers of this thickness are quite wearable without getting too hot except in very warm weather. Somehow the Epic treatment just does not work. So I can’t wear these either for winter all day walking (without taking separate waterproofs) or for summer walks. I have noticed that the Rohan advertising for Epic jackets has changed (it used to say “all the proofing you will need for 90% of the time” which convinced me to try it, but this has now been dropped, so perhaps others have fed back the same as myself.

   I also expected to be asked in the Survey about Rohan clothing for holidays. Rohan trousers, certainly, but these days that can only mean Bags. All other Rohan trousers seem to be made of the hideously rough and uncomfortable Polyamide. Fortunately at the moment I have a wardrobe full of Rohan trousers of all styles, made from polyester and cotton, but when they wear out they will certainly not be replaced with anything made of Polyamide.

    I just did the Rohan Holiday Survey. I expected to be asked what item of Rohan clothing I couldn’t live without on holiday If you asked me that question it would have to be any form of convertible trousers.
