Legs are very important to Rohan

justpants2Since the 1970′s Rohan has produced some of the best outdoor legwear on the market. Rohan trousers, shorts, breeches and salopettes, in many designs and sizes. It could be said that legs are very important to Rohan. So much so we are trying to find out a little more, about how long or short you want your Rohan trousers. Over the last year, some of you have mentioned trouser leg lengths on Rohantime and the Rohantime Forum. Its an important issue and we have been listening.

We’ve made a number of changes to our legwear range already, we plan to do much more. So the more information you can give us the better.

Please answer the following questions so we can get even nearer to providing you with the best fitting Rohan trousers.

What length trousers do you wear?

Thank you for voting.

I’d have been interested to see the results of the poll. Agree with BT; what about 29 inch leg? I don’t buy Rohan trousers, though I’d like to. Indeed M&S is the only place I know where I can walk out wearing my trouser purchase.

What I think would be a market differentiator would be if you could order arm and leg lengths on-line and have then delivered or collected from your local store.

  2. Bob Thomas says:

it seems I missed the trouser length poll..But hwat about a 29 inch inside leg .We’re not all giants out there

    Regards

    BT

All points noted! We’re doing our best… This is great, keep the comments coming. Best regards, Tim Jasper

Fantastic news about XL leg length for men, but what about us women?
33″ is good but hopeless if you are a 35″. Still unable to spend my money!
Please can us women have an XL? We don,t want to wear mens styles, very uncomfortable!!

  5. Craig says:

As a long time climber and hiker I know how I like my legwear to sit on my body, unfortunatly I rarely find trousers that I feel comfortable in. Leg length wise Rohan are great with the 31.5” but as with many other brands, even your active fit clothing, gets narrower toward the bottom of the leg. I still don’t understand why.
I would like to see a trouser along the lines of MOON’s climbing pants. straight cut legs that don’t restrict movement.
However Fusion and On Route have been excellent for walking the hills around lyme park.
    Thanks

Leg length is a real problem for us longies. I 6-4 and 34in leg, Can you make them longer please – i know its a bit of a problem for them to be shortened, but if they are too short its actually impossible to lengthen them.

  7. Ernie says:

Hi Tim, great news on the trouser length issue, but as they say the proof of the pudding is in the eating… I am sure that we all appreciate the time, trouble and expense that you and your team have gone to,now we’ve just got to wait and see!

  8. Tim Jasper says:

Hi everyone, update on the leg length issue. We are moving towards the sunny uplands of more leg lengths for everyone. From this August or thereabouts we intend all our trousers to come in short, regular and long for both men and women. When I say all I mean all the styles that sell at the right level to do this – which will be most and in most colours. Additionally for men we will also start introducing the option of an extra long leg in selected styles. Hope this works for you and is worth the wait. This is a major step (!) for us and represents both a substantial investment and good evidence of how valuable your comments are. Thank you! Note, for 32″ and similar people, as most of our trousers are “casual” in style there is usually enough leeway for you to fit either the regular or long (in this case) according to your personal preferences. Best regards, Tim Jasper

Years ago Rohan used to do me a ‘special order’ and supply me with any trousers in a 35 or 36 inside leg.The reason given for not doing this anymore is because manufacture moved to Portugal.??If you have short legs at least you have a choice to buy and alter, but having long legs means(at least with Rohan!!)not buying at all, because you cannot lengthen what is not there! If Rohan are unable to do specific longer lengths then an unfinished 36″ hem would be good. It gives us a chance to spend our money!

  10. June says:

I really wish you’d make women’s trousers in longer lengths – I normally take a 34″ leg, but can manage (for outdoor trousers, with boots) with a 33″. I usually have to buy the men’s trousers. It’s easy to get trousers shortened but impossible to lengthen them. I’m sure, years ago, Rohan used to make longer trousers – people are getting taller, remember!

  11. Simon says:

Not sure that length is really an issue, its not that difficult to take them up. Far worse for those of us on the ‘skinny’ side is the balloon like ‘active’ cut of most outdoor trousers including Rohan’s offerings. With stretch fabric such as those of the Tangier trousers could we not have a few slim fit trousers that don’t look like sacks when we stand still, don’t cut us in half when we sit down and don’t turn us into kites in a light breeze? Votes for ‘Stretch Bags’ anyone?? also I would vote for 31inch waist (2inch increment at the skinny end is more significant than at the large end)

  12. Paul ellison says:

Another vote for 29″ leg. It would be great to buy a pair of Rohan trousers off the peg without the additional expense of getting them adjusted. Also when they are adjusted, the finish quality from our local alteration shop never seems to be to the Same high standard that Rohan use.

  13. Simon says:

I too have a 32″ leg length. Everybody else does this length why not Rohan?

  14. Brian says:

A short leg option please and cut for the shorter person. With a 30 waist in can’t be uncommon to have a shorter leg legnth. It is great I can get a 30″ no complaits there. I have some trousers shortened, however as previosuly mentioned the knee is in the wrong place in some styles and cut-offs – cut off at the wrong place.

  15. Malcolm says:

I buy my trousers from Lands’ End as they shorted them free of charge to my 27″. Also gave up with Rohan for trousers as the reinforced knee area is in the wrong place… and the cargo pockets are too low… need I go on!

  16. Arthur Pemberton says:

On the subject of legs, I love your trousers. Currently I have on route; uplanders; ultimate cargoes and more pairs of fusion than you can shake a stick at. And bags of course, over the years. Anyway, having been thrilled by the Rohan Jeans I bought in 2008, the cut when I went back for some more the other week seemed completely different. The new ones seem much baggier, is this so or am I finally going senile? They felt like overalls to me, much less ‘dressy’ than last years version. I bought some more on route instead, but I would love the ‘old’ style jeans. Any chance?

  17. Dawn says:

So happy to find the women’s striders in a short leg – well done on recognising that short curvy women may want these – please expand to other ranges. Taking up the unfinished legs on other trousers means the knee re-inforcement’s in entirely the wrong place and looks really bizarre, not to mention my lack of skill in needlework… I’d buy more Rohan if it fitted!

  18. David says:

The main problem is that the leg lengh differs between the way in which the waist size is measured. One measured s,m,l etc are longer than ones measured 34,36etc

  19. John Davis says:

I too am a disgruntled 32 inch legged individual. The difference between shorter and longer lengths (31.5″ and 33″?) in trousers such as the On Route surprises me. The shorter leg lengths flap like flags up a pole and only look reasonable with my belt around the hips while the longer leg lengths get perilously close to the mud.

Also, why is do fabric properties seem to change from colour to colour? This has been going on for some time. For example, the dark grey On Route fabric seems thicker and stiffer than the pale colour.

On a positive note, the On Routes are the first Rohan trousers I have worn regularly to work. They feel smart, as do the improved Fusions.

  20. Rob says:

cloudbase and uplanders in 36 please ! I wear bags but cant get a Rohan waterproof overtrouser long enough. (oh and more XXL sizing as well) thanks for great kit, using it for over 20 years/

  21. Rob says:

As I have a 35in inside leg I like the bags just as they are ! I bet there are a lot of taller users out there who buy Rohan for this reason. It would be nice if you made the other trousers in 36 unfinished as well …

  22. CJ says:

Another vote for 29″ inside leg. IMO then you take unfinished bags up to 29″ the knee reinforcement ends up too low.
Make them in 29″ and I’ll get a couple more pairs – and some winter bags – and some EPIC bags…

  23. Lorraine says:

I’d love to see more women’s trousers in my leg length, 33in. As it stands I can only buy the bags.

  24. John McClelland says:

I did make a comment on the original thread about trouser leg length.
I love my Rohan trousers and would appreciate a 29 inch length being available.
I was looking at Epic and Winter Bags but feel that after having them altered from the 36 inch length they would not sit right.

Keep up the great work guys

  25. Skipper says:

Women’s 33″/34″ leg would be perfect- I’m not especially tall, though find Women’s Bags are just right, if not slightly short for my preference when unfinished.

As such I rely quite heavily on some Men’s Dry Trailblazers and Jungle Expedition Cargos- while I have some Women’s Ultimate Cargos I get a bit fed up of them being too short to get away with when wearing anything but walking boots!

  26. Strider says:

All the leg length comments are perfectly valid and I hope you can find a sensible cost effective solution. but I’m just going to say that I find your 33″ leg perfect, so don’t forget that you do have a lot of very happy, if less vociferous customers out there already – don’t go changin too much!

    Strider

  27. Colin says:

Thank you all for your comments. The reason we asked the question is that we are considering some options for Spring . In stock investment a new leg length is the equivalent of a new trouser style so we have to be cautious but you can expect to see more styles in different leg lengths.

    regards

    Colin

  28. Graham Brazendale says:

I have just started wearing Rohan jackets, waterproof and fleece, which are great.

However, why no 29″ trouser length for us shorter blokes.

    Best regards,

    Graham.

  29. Robert Cave says:

I used to buy Bags and take them straight to Sketchleys, who would make an excellent job of turning them up to 30″ for about £7:50. Now they are no longer there. I bought one pair about 2 years ago and the only place I could get them altered stitched them right through. If I could buy 29/30″ bags I would probably buy 3 pairs tomorrow!

  30. Christian says:

What happened to even sizes for leg lengths? If Levis can do it surely you (and M&S) can too. SIGNED A RESENTFUL 32″ LEG!

  31. Ernie says:

I have had a few says on this subject in the past. Bags are not a problem as we have the option of buying the unfinished length. Trousers such as Fusions, Crossborders etc should be available in at least the same range of lengths as Bags.

Thanks for asking our opinions, now do something with them.

    Ernie

  32. Carl Radford says:

I too have had the same problem – it is worse for cargo type trousers as the pockets end up in the wrong places. 29 inch trousers leg seems pretty standard as short – to be honest I hVe few rohan trousers as a result.

  33. Paul says:

I love my Rohan bags (both summer and winter). It is a pain having to take them to get them turned up however. It adds £10 to the cost and means I can’t wear them for a few days. It would be great if you did a short leg size.
