We’re proud to celebrate 40 years of innovative, often groundbreaking Rohan designs and what better way to celebrate than with a piece of cake! If you call into any Rohan shop before the 16th September 2012 we would love to share a piece of ‘Romney’s Kendal mint cake’ with you (whilst stocks last).
Romneys are famous for their Kendal Mint Cake. Established in 1936 by the late Sam T. Clarke Romneys has remained a small family business. After advertising in a climbing magazine Mr Clarke was approached by the 1953 expedition to Everest. Sir Edmund Hillary and his team carried Romney’s Kendal Mint Cake with them on the first successful ascent of Mount Everest 29th May 1953.
A member of the successful Everest expedition wrote – ‘It was easily the most popular item on our high altitude ration – our only criticism was that we did not have enough of it.’
