I have just returned from Germany.
The Bodensee to be more precise, home of the OutDoor Trade Show.
I was one of the 21,730 trade visitors that descended on the show to meet up with 907 exhibitors and 1,019 journalists all talking about our favourite subject the Great Outdoors. The OutDoor Conferences covered a host of topics with a very strong emphasises on sustainability within the industry. Read about the OutDoor Industry Gold Awards 2012
On my way home a UK journalists asked me to give him one word that summed up the show …
My Answer: Colour
Colour fantastic, eye-popping
Colour on Clothing
Colour on Boots
Colour on Packs, Sleeping Bags and Stoves.
You name it and it will be available in the colours of the rainbow for next summer.
As attractive as all this is on the stands one outdoor sage remarked when you can’t think of anything else to do change the colour.
The main driver for all this colour is the obvious trend of supplying the growing interest in Trail Running.
The trails of Europe next summer will be full of green, yellow and pink runners carefully coordinated with packs, sticks and hats.
When did Trail Running become so big in Europe?
It was undoubtedly the main feature of the show.
How all this translates into the stock in our local outdoor shops in the UK is anyone’s guess.
Answer this question do we want to see more colour in the outdoor gear we use on the UK hills?
