We are not Tri-athletes…

We are not Tri-athletes... Iain, Matt and Martina

Which is probably the reason we are doing the Wicked Wolf Triathlon as a team, each taking a leg, and not individually.

July 21st sees the third running of this young event, an awesome off road fun Triathlon set in the infamous stomping ground of the mean and nasty Wolf of Badenoch, the notorious 14th Century Lord of Badenoch and Earl of Buchan, famous for terrorising the northern counties and sacking Elgin Cathedral. The route will take competitors over untouched hill and heather moorland towards Carrbridge and around the village, taking in views of the Cairngorms and the Badenoch and Strathspey Valley on the way. Myself (on the bike section), Matt (Rohan Aviemore Store Manager, 5K Kayak/now 3K run) and Martina (Aviemore Store, 9K end run) are gearing up for a crack at the event and a chance to raise some money for Cancer Research

Wicked Wolf Triathlon Saturday 21st July 2012The Wicked Wolf triathlon is organised by a few local mountain bikers from the Carrbridge area, North of Aviemore, who enjoy a challenge but don’t take life too seriously! The event is all about raising money for Cancer Research UK, a charity close to the heart of the organisers, while having an awesome day out surrounded by stunning scenery. The Triathlon involves a 5K Kayak round the castle on Lochindorb, a 30km mountain bike race over the moor hill to Carrbridge, and a low level 9km woodland run around the outskirts of the village, topped off with a ceilidh and a boogie in the Village Hall afterwards, how good is that at the end of a hard day.

With training well underway, we are all looking forward to pulling on the Lycra suits, ok maybe not, and raising some money for Cancer Research, sponsorship forms are in both stores up until the event. This gives me another chance to put the Rohan Rider range to test and with the weather the way it is I have no doubt the Windrider Jacket will get an airing. We will hopefully report back after the event with an update on how it went and some pictures.

UPDATE** Due to the presence of Blue Green algae at Lochindorb, the kayaking section of this year’s event will be changed to a run, the bike section and the final run section remain unchanged. The event will therefore be a run-bike-run, with the first section being approx 3km run at Lochindorb. ** Oh how I feel for poor Matt, as I believe the run won’t be straight forward either, the girls have promised some fun.
