River Tay

Local Knowledge: Welcome to Perth, the very heart of Scotland and gateway to the Highlands. Perth sits on the banks of the River Tay and is renowned for its scenery and walking and trekking routes. Kinnoul Hill is a popular local walking area with spectacular views along the River Tay.

Kinnoul Hill and view along River Tay

On the outskirts  of Perth you will also find the excellent Cateran Trail and scenic walking and trekking at the Hermitage in Dunkeld.

Perth is also home to Scone Palace, crowning place of Scottish Kings and also offers scenic walks beside the River Tay and is host to the annual Scottish Game Fair. Fishing, golfing, cycling, walking, theatres, art galleries, and watersports make Perth the perfect centre in the heart of Scotland.

Staff Recommendations: Perth offers a wealth of cafes, bars and restaurants. A few of our favourites include Breazh and Café Tabou which are both just around the corner from Rohan Perth.

Walking

Try out your traditional Rohan Bags by taking a walk in Perthshire and discover why this beautiful region is known as ‘Big Tree Country’, home of the tallest trees, widest conifer and tallest hedge in Britain. Or using some of the Pinnacle range why not climb up one of our two favourite local hills: Shiehallion or Ben Vrackie. Ladies don your Roamers and gents your Escapers to try out the Cateran Trail from Blairgowrie to Bridge of Cally or Black Spout Wood in Pitlochry.

Other outdoor activities

Perthshire is also well known for angling - the Field Vest would be perfect with all its pockets.

There are plenty of on and off road cycle routes for all to try out our new Rider range. Route 77 from Dunkeld to Pitlochry also gives the option of using the train for part of the journey.

Try out some of the 40 golf courses in the area, where a pair of Dry Requisite trousers take the golfer from the golf course to the clubhouse, as they are fully waterproof but look like a smart chino. The Rosemount course at Blairgowrie is a Championship course, and Gleneagles will host the next Rider Cup.

Events and Festivals

Try out the new Canope cape in case it rains (never!) when you visit one of the great festivals and events in and around Perth. Highlights include the 1980’s themed Rewind Festival, Perthshire Amber Festival, or the Scottish Game Fair, the Kilt Run or the Enchanted Forest, Blair Castle International Horse Trials or the Glenfiddich Piping Championships. With something for everyone, there is no excuse to stay indoors!

Eating and Drinking

For a break from your retail therapy, it’s well worth seeking out Gloagburn Farm on the road out to Crieff. It sells lovely home made food using fresh local ingredients. For a real treat to round off your day shopping in Perth try our favourite local French restaurant, Breazh. It is just round the corner from the shop and serves excellent French food at good value prices.

A practical yet stylish look for ladies on an evening out at a local restaurant starts with a pair of Rohan linen trousers. Unlike regular linen trousers, they are crease resistant and remain smooth all evening. This could be teamed with the linen jacket and finished off with a Serene scarf for that elegant touch. The men would look smart wearing a pair of Grand Tour chinos and a Worldview shirt. These outfits will take you from the dining tables of Perthshire to the restaurants of Europe and beyond and are perfect for travel.

If you’re a local (or a visitor) and you have some other suggestions, please feel free to comment, we’d love to hear from you!
