Rohan Harrogate Exhibition of Paintings
To run alongside the Rohan Harrogate Lectures there is an exhibition of paintings by Philip Spellacy in Rohan Harrogate.
In 2007 Philip accompanied Rohan Harrogate Lecturers Gil Richardson and Andreas Helmer on her ‘Climb Ev’ry Mountain’ fund raising project in the Alps and recorded the mountains she climbed in aid of the Yorkshire Cancer Centre in Leeds.
His most recent output is based on landscapes, particularly in Yorkshire, and he has built up a body of colourful and expressive work celebrating the Dales, Moors and Pennine areas of the county.
Philip studied at the Leeds College of Art where he obtained a Degree in Fine Art in 1970. Having becoming fascinated with the world of the puppet whilst an undergraduate, he became a performing puppetry artist and travelled the world, appearing in Puppetry and Arts Festivals in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Returning to Leeds in 1997 Philip directed his creative talents into the visual arts once more and completed an MA in Contemporary Fine Art Practice at Leeds Metropolitan University in 2005.
Since then he has produced sculptural and mixed media work, as well as drawings and paintings and has exhibited in England, Austria and Germany.
The exhibition will run until January 2012.
