Congratulations well done Dave! – August 25th Sydney
At 11am on the 28th April 2011 pilot Dave Sykes in his P&M Aviation Quik set off on an epic solo, record breaking microlight journey from York, England to Sydney, Australia to celebrate 80 years since Amy Johnson became the first woman to fly solo from Croydon, South London to Darwin, Australia.
This challenging feat of aviation saw Dave pass through 18 countries, and fly over 11,600 nautical miles over seas, deserts and hostile terrain, while also encountering testing meteorological conditions on the way.
As well as having to struggle with the day to day aspects of flying over 11,600 nautical miles in an open cockpit Dave is the first paraplegic to fly from York to Sydney in a microlight.
The epic journey also raised funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, a charity which provides emergency services to remote and inaccessible areas in the north of England.
