SORCE to help make outdoor events more sustainable.
A new project has just been launched in the Lake District to help make outdoor events more sustainable.
Many of us enjoy the National Park every year either independently or taking part in the many great outdoor events, we walk, climb, run, cycle and enjoy the many lakes, all these activities impact on the landscape and communities that host the activities.
In response, environmental charity Nurture Lakeland has launched the SORCE (Sustainable Outdoor Recreational Challenge Events) project to help make outdoor events more Lake District friendly. The project aims to work with event organisers to come up with “best practice” guidelines. These will be used to formulate “a special toolkit” that will give organisers general tips on making their events more sustainable for the future.
The twelve month project forms part of the wider, three-year Windermere Reflections scheme, a partnership initiative funded from the Heritage Lottery Fund, to improve the quality of the lake and surrounding countryside for future generations.
It will be developed over the next few months and launched next summer.
If you’re an event organiser and would like to get involved in this exciting project, please get in touch with Nature Lakeland.
It’s really great to learn that this project is under way.
