When the Tangiers mens’ trousers were made I bought three pairs, they were so good. The Rohan answer to chinos smart and casual but quick-drying, light, cool but windproof. Virtually all weather trousers that are all you need for a holiday (plus some shorts). Sadly I’ve worn them so much over the years that I need some new ones. When will you make them again please?! And from the same material!

My huband lost his dearly loved frostlight jacket, and I would love to replace it for him – any chance of getting one?

  3. John Sellers says:

I started buying Rohan after seeing the Rohan Catalogue System at Glenmore Lodge on a whitewater course in 1984 – and never looked back!

Bags were my standard workwear, and at the Islington kayak club I joined I was known as Mr Rohan.

And imagine the comments after my partner and I moved back to our Yorkshire roots, and after a long search, bought a house in Long Preston….

25 years on and fifty per cent of my wardrobe is still Rohan. My most treasured piece of kit is the 1987 “One piece” jumpsuit, in light grey and yellow, closely followed by the Hyde windshirt [ please bring it back! ]

    Regards, John Sellers

Oh yes, it’s almost certainly a Tundra. Great jacket – though a strange name for a waterproof. Amazing that it’s still in use. It was my first ever “proper” waterproof (not counting the un-breathable one I bought from another famous British brand, nor the first generation Gore-Tex that leaked immediately). Those were the days…
Thanks for the reminder Allan about the Anduin. That was a strange one… No we never figured out know what the kidney pockets were for either. Kidneys?

    Tim

You were working in retail of Rohan then, like me (I was one of the London crew)

I suspect the jacket is the Tundra; I still use mine when I have to look smart

    regards

    charles

    Tony
Your waterproof Rohan jacket might be a Tundra, a waterproof version of the Pampas jacket. It had a rollaway hood, two Pampas style lower pockets, a map pocket behind the front stand on the left chest and an inner pocket on the right chest.
Or it might be an Anduin – this one had loads of pockets, removable hood and a side opening vent (even had two inner kidney pockets – never sure what they were for though)
Glad to hear it’s still in use.

Dear Tony Walker – we’ll try! But maybe there’s no one working in CG shop of 1989 vintage anymore…
Dear Frostlight fans – thanks! Yes we’re planning to bring it back – or something very similar. It’s in work but it’ll be a while till it sees the light of day. Interestingly we sold a lot more vests than jackets on the Frostlight series – the first time this has happened. Any suggestions for how you’d like the new Frostlights?
Dear Alison – sorry we don’t have a leg length long enough for you at the moment. We review all sizing regularly and would like to hope we can fit you one day – nothing definite yet though.
Thanks to all for the comments and feedback.

  8. Tony Walker says:

I still have a Rohan waterproof jacket (don’t know the name), that I bought in Covent Garden in 1989, and it’s still going strong. I’ll be bringing it to London when I come over from Arizona in September – maybe you can identify it!

My wife bought a waterproof jacket at the same time, so maybe she’ll be packing hers too.

  9. Peter Graham says:

    Bring back the Frostlight!

  10. Peter Graham says:

I am a long term user of Rohan products and have travelled the world quite a bit. Whilst some of the new products are great I really am at a lost to understand why Rohan stopped the production of the “Frostlight Vest. Sadly, my Frostlight has been tried and tested under a wide variety of conditions, and now shows its age. This product is excellent in so many ways and in my opinion is a must if you are traveling light so when are you going to bring a similar product into your range. I am sure others are of the same opinion as me.

  11. Alison Gifford says:

I’ve been buying and wearing Rohan since it’s first appearance – still using the original Super Striders breeches, and I’ve never found anything nearly as good. I’ve had to give up on your trousers though – I’m female, 5’9” and need a 34” inside leg. Until now, I’ve made do with men’s small. 33” leg and put false hems on, but they never really look right, and several styles are totally the wrong shape for ladies anyway. There are lots of us about, can’t you do something for us? How about an ‘unfinished’ leg?

Every trouser I’ve had has washed beautifully, but the seams always appear a bit puckered after even the first wash, and need ironing, even when the fabric itself doesn’t need ironing. Is it me, or do others find this. I like to look well groomed, even outdoors, and this vexes me.

  12. Tim Jasper says:

Ha ha. You’d be needing a Pinnacle Jacket, launched later this Autumn…

  13. Travis says:

On your Mountain Pass writeup it says its built for all but the most extreme conditions. What would you need for those, a Bear Grylls jacket :p?

  14. Tim Jasper says:

    Hi Travis
We don’t currently use Gore-tex or eVent on clothing, though we do use eVent in footwear, because we genuinely think there are alternatives that are at least as good. We developed our Barricade technology because we think it has distinct advantages over s0-called microporous technologies. Barricade is based on a PU hydrophilic membrane technology but importantly it is specified at a very high level of performance. PU hydrophilics are available at many levels of waterproofness and particularly breathability, so this could be why you’ve got the impression that they may not as breathable. It depends on the specification of the membrane, the fabrics laminated and the skill in the lamination process. The whys and wherefores are a big subject on which I could go on for hours, but I won’t… Suffice it to say that we’ve tried them all and we prefer our own!

  15. Travis says:

Speaking of waterproofs, why was Gore- tex or eVent never used in waterproof jackets? I think I read they are more breathable then PU laminates?

  16. Tim says:

Thanks guys for the comments. Fixed hood it is. Sorry Travis – both Mountain Pass & Cloudbase have foldaway hoods if you’re in need of a great waterproof… Thanks again – keep the comments & suggestions coming.

  17. Gerry says:

    Great news!

The smaller fixed hood sits well on the back – looking smart and makes it easier to use.

It also makes the front of the jacket tighter on the neck, so the zup comes up higher – keeping your chin warm! A foldaway hood with front velcro fasteners, are a big no for me.

This is obviously my personal opinion.

    Thanks for listening/reading

  18. Travis says:

I like the foldaway hood because if its windy and not raining it doesn’t fwap in your face when you have it off.

  19. Tim Jasper says:

Dear Gerry, yes it’ll have a fixed hood and the four chest pockets as the original. We’re really looking forward to it. Fingers crossed all processes run smoothly and we get it into the range as planned. I agree with you about the hood design. Funnily enough most people prefer a foldaway apparently. Apparently it looks “smarter” – whatever that is… Best wishes!

  20. Gerry says:

    Now then

I remember the 05/06 ones, but sadly missed out on getting one and been after one ever since.

Not too keen on the new ones, but the one based on the original next spring sounds interesting.

I hope it will have a fixed hood?

Just looks a lot better and functional IMHO

    cordial regards

  21. Rohantime says:

    Hi Gerry
The 1975 Pampas Jacket is discontinued. The 1975 range was a special, limited edition that only ran 2005/6.
Maybe check out the current Epic Pampas which is quite similar. Tim mentioned that next Spring there will be a jacket similar to the original Pampas. That sounds good.
We have put a request on the forum for you in case somebody has a Pampas 1975 – you never know somebody may have one that is just right for you, please see http://rohantimeforum.com/viewforum.php?f=6
If you have one please tell us on the forum or add a comment now
    Hope this helps

  22. Gerry says:

    Now then

Does anybody know where the rohan epic pampus 1975 jackets are available?
